Okay, we made it...
We made it through what may end up being the hottest day of our lives in Seattle (at least I hope it is!)... now where do we go from here? Thankfully, all signs point to a cool-down... albeit a slow one.
Western Washington will still be toasty Thursday afternoon, with highs in the upper 90s to low 100s. I expect a high in Seattle today of 99 degrees, which will be a record for the day... but four degrees shy of the all-time record we set yesterday.
Two things have to happen for us to cool down back to normal. The first one will occur today and tomorrow. The trough of low pressure that was sitting near the coast (and aiding in our warm offshore wind) will move into Eastern Washingon. This will allow more of a marine influence into the Seattle/Tacoma area... and will help us cool down into the 80s. We will stay in the 80s from Friday through Monday.
Next week, Part 2 of the "Cooldown" will arrive. The huge bubble of high pressure sitting over top of us will move out, and an upper-level area of low pressure will move in from off the California coast. This will get us back to the 70s by Tuesday -- and, man, will that feel nice!
Seattle hit an eye-popping 103 degrees Wednesday afternoon, the hottest day in recorded history. But we weren't the only ones over 100. As of 4 p.m., Olympia tied their all-time record high of 104, while Renton was at 105 and Vancouver was at 107. Bellingham was at a comparatively cool 96, but that shattered their all-time record high temp, which was 94.
